Irish Ambassador Hosts St Michael’s Hospice Presentation
at
The Residency, Irish Embassy, 27th October 2011

His Excellency, Patrick Scullion, the Irish Ambassador hosted an evening in Nicosia at the Embassy residency in support of St Michael’s Hospice, Paphos. The Hospice presentation team: Fr Carlos Ferrero, Fr Jim Kennedy and Cameron McDonald gave a 30 minute presentation followed by a one hour Question and Answer session. The invited guests at the meeting included; Pawel Dobrowolski, Polish Ambassador; Ana Maria Salomon, Spanish Ambassador; Zenon Liatsos, Nicosia Businessman; Benito Mantovani, Representative of the Latin Community in The House Of Representatives; Keith Peterson, Public Affairs Officer, American Embassy; Patrick Scullion, Irish Ambassador; and Fr Andrew Verdota the Cultural Attache to the Apostolic Nunciature, Father Evencio Herrero Diaz.

The presentation team talked about the progress of the hospice, the funds raised and the funds needed to complete the facility which will be completed in 2012. They then outlined their key objectives from the meeting, which included informing the attendees about the philosophy of hospice and palliative care, the Mission Statement of the hospice which will offer free care to all in need, regardless of nationality, religious belief or type of illness. They asked for the support of the Ambassadors with their own and the Cypriot Government when required, for introductions to the many business contacts and individuals they know so they too could be informed about the hospice and the care it will offer.

A great deal of discussion ensued with much enthusiasm and willingness to support the hospice cause. All Ambassadors offered support and were enthusiastic about the project. The Ambassadors and Representatives present made very practical and helpful suggestion for the funding of the hospice and offered support and help with Government, businesses and other bodies.

They also offered to help create opportunities for the presentation to be made at appropriate meetings and to try to help open doors to contacts.

The presentation team thanked the Ambassadors and representatives for their time and advice which was helpful and much appreciated.

The Irish Ambassador Patrick Scullion is very keen to pass on information to other Ambassadors as he is already an avid supporter of the worldwide hospice movement.
